HISTORY
The Church started around 1986, known originally as City Church Wakefield, and had a complete re-birth and transformation in 1999 and Destiny Christian Church Wakefield was born.
VISION
The people of Destiny Church are passionate about Jesus Christ, their faith, their church and the vision that God has given to the Church. The name ‘Destiny’ comes from the deep conviction that the Church, and therefore the members, who come from many nations, have a special part to play in making a real difference in Wakefield and around the world today. The church has a saying: 'Destiny - where everyone has a future!'
MINISTRY
Destiny Church in Wakefield is at the forefront of many important initiatives that have literally touched thousands of lives to the ends of the earth as it has supported Missions in the UK and many countries. Destiny regularly sends teams to Malawi in Africa where it helped build Churches and the Destiny Orphanage. Destiny has sent outreach teams many times to the Czech Republic and India where we now have a network of more than 500 churches (known as Destiny Connections - India) as well as a Bible College (Destiny Bible Institute) and a United Nations approved charity (The Destiny Foundation) which is helping in the poor and rural areas of Northern and Central India.
TRAINING AT D:SOM
Destiny Church provides training opportunities through D:SOM (Destiny School of Ministry). D:SOM is preparing and enabling people for ministry and works of service in the local church and the community.
OUTREACH
There are many talented people at Destiny Church. Most years, a high quality drama/musical is produced. Destiny Church seeks to communicate with relevance, to be effective and earn the right to be heard. It uses every possible means - it is 'high-tech', prints literature, uses music, mime, dance and drama as well as the tried and tested Bible methods of preaching, prayer and praise.
APOSTOLIC BASE
Destiny Church Wakefield is the home for the apostolic ministry of Ian Critchley and Destiny Connections International - a family of churches and ministries in many countries. It regularly gives and receives ministry from a number of apostolic and prophetic ministries from around the world where close relationships are enjoyed.
CONNECT CONFERENCE
Each year the CONNECT Conference is an opportunity for people connected with Destiny from different locations in the UK and around the world to get away for a weekend of fellowship, ministry and refreshing. This is usually the first weekend of July and has been held for some time now at Cliff College Conference Centre in the beautiful Derbyshire Dales. See the menu on this website for more information about this year’s CONNECT Conference.
SUNDAYS MORNINGS AT DESTINY CHURCH
Sunday Services are held in our building at Tuke Grove, Parklands (nr Pinderfields Hospital) at 10am. This enormous restored building was previously a Theatre and houses one of only two existing Victorian stages in the UK. As you arrive, look out for the yellow jackets of our parking attendants who will be able to help you find a good parking space. The Sunday Service starts at 10am and usually lasts for about one and a half hours, during which we have great worship, perhaps some testimonies about God's goodness and relevant, positive preaching of the Word of God to build strong, mature Christians. During the service the children have their own specialised groups - and afterwards we enjoy fellowship and a cup of tea or coffee.
CHILDREN AT DESTINY
There is a fantastic Children’s Ministry at Destiny – the children have the opportunity to go to their own groups during the Sunday Service, and there are other opportunities for the children to meet, have fun and also grow their own faith. We have a Friday Club monthly for 6-12 Year olds, check out the latest stop press for details of the next one.
DESTINY YOUTH
Sunday evenings are high octane for the Youth – a large number of teenagers meet for fun, faith and friendship. There is more information about Destiny Youth on our website. Pastor Wes & Annette Critchley, Steve Keates, Ant Pearson, Rob Finch & Jay Squire lead the Destiny Youth Team
DESTINY PRAYER AND BIBLE TEACHING EVENINGS
The first Wednesday of each month is a ‘House of Prayer’ - a corporate prayer meeting for all the church. The second Wednesday of each month is a ‘Bible Teaching Evening’ - for systematic teaching, both of these are very well attended.
COMMUNITY FELLOWSHIP GROUPS
For the other weeks of each month there are regional Fellowship Groups in homes at locations across the City – currently meeting in the following areas: City Central; Wrenthorpe; Alverthorpe; Horbury Bridge; Durkar; Sandal; Sharlston; Upton; Pontefract – with other regions soon to come. These Fellowship Groups, meeting all across the city, provide the opportunity to make good friends, pray, share and enjoy the family of God. The Groups are led by good caring people who give pastoral care and help to each person in the Group to grow strong in the faith.
IMPACT

It is one of the ways in which Destiny aims to help those who otherwise may feel lonely, giving them an opportunity to get involved with other people and make good friendships. IMPACT meets fortnightly and is growing all the time. Gwen Bill leads IMPACT at Destiny.
